David Waddill

David Waddill, Of Counsel to the Firm, has served the citizens of Collin County, Texas for over 22 years as an Assistant District Attorney, with his latest public service position being the First Assistant District Attorney for the District Attorney's Office. Mr Waddill's practice is focused primarily on representing individuals and companies under investigation for or charged with various crimes in State Court.

David Waddill attended the University of Texas at Austin (BBA 1983) and Texas Tech University School of Law (JD 1986).

He began his legal career by being selected to serve as a briefing attorney for the Honorable William Cornelius, Chief Justice of the Sixth Supreme Judicial Court of Appeals of Texas. Upon the completion of his clerkship, he was hired as a prosecutor in the Collin County, Texas District Attorney's Office. Mr. Waddill's experience with the Collin County District Attorney's Office included assignments as a trial court chief in both the felony and misdemeanor trial divisions. He was assigned as the Chief of the Grand Jury/Intake Division, where he oversaw the investigation and review of charging decisions for over 10,000 cases presented by law enforcement organizations each year. He has further personally presented over 5,000 cases to various Collin County grand juries.

David Waddill also served as the Chief of the Misdemeanor Division, and as the Second Assistant District Attorney. As the Misdemeanor Division Chief, Mr. Waddill supervised the daily operations of all prosecution teams for the Collin County Courts at Law and the five Justice Courts in Collin County. This included the disposition of more than 8,000 misdemeanor cases per year, over 300 of which were jury trials to verdict, making the Collin County misdemeanor courts the busiest in the State of Texas. Mr. Waddill's experience in the Appellate Division included briefing in a number of significant Texas cases and argument before the 5th District Court of Appeals in Dallas, and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

In 2008, Mr. Waddill entered the private sector and built a thriving criminal defense practice before returning to public service as Collin County's First Assistant District Attorney. Upon his retirement in 2011 from the Collin County District Attorney's Office, he joined the Firm in an Of Counsel relationship.

David Waddill is a veteran trial lawyer who has the experience and knowledge to help guide clients through the difficult and often confusing world of state and local law enforcement, grand jury investigations and other criminal law legal proceedings.

Mr. Waddill has been continually board certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1991. He is a skilled trial advocate with the distinction of trying hundreds of jury trials covering every aspect of state criminal law.
